Scope and Contents
Collection consists of records of the Wellesley College Athletic Association, dating from 1887-1974. Includes records of awards, plaques, and honors bestowed; constitutions, regulations, and by-laws of the Association; multiple volumes of the Custodian’s Notebook (1928-1946); records of the Athletic Association Board, board elections, and the nominating committee; Field Day and Float Night programs and Float Night reports; financial records and budgets; the Wellesley College Athletic Association Journal (1916-1936); pamphlets and programs for college Sports Days; records of extramural sports; files on outside affiliations; the President’s Notebook and Reports, and records of the Presidents, Vice Presidents, Heads and the Sports General; rules, regulations and instructions; and a run of files on individual sports and sports clubs at Wellesley.

Biographical / Historical
The Wellesley College Athletic Association was organized by the Senior President of the Class of 1896. The 1897 Report of the President describes the Athletic Association as “[combining] into one organization clubs for practice in rowing, golf, basket ball, bicycling, etc… The Association is open for membership to all members of the College, fifty cents being the annual fee.” (Pages 9, 11) Athletic Association was composed of association leadership (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Physical Training) and Heads of individual sports.
