Biographical / Historical

The 1977-1978 College Catalog lists the areas under Student Services as “residence; health services; counseling.” (Page 4) It describes Student Services’s resources: “The staff of the College Health Services includes psychiatrists and other specialists available for crisis counseling and special help. Long-term psychotherapy is not provided at the College, but the resources for such treatment are available in the surrounding area. Other Student Services resource people include the professional staff in the residence halls, the student activities staff in Schneider Center, Harambee House and Slater International Center, and the chaplain and other advisors to religious groups.” (Page 28) The office of the Student Services Coordinator was located in the Schneider Center. Susan R. Fedo was the Coordinator of Student Services and the Director of the Schneider Center in the 1970s. The position is no longer listed in the College Catalog as of the 1979-1980 academic year (as of 1981, the new title of “Coordinator for Schneider Center Activities” was held by former Student Services Administrative Assistant, Alice M. Roodkowsky). Circa 1971, Billings Hall (built in 1880) was remodeled and expanded, and the Schneider College Center was opened in the new space to support extracurricular activities and serve as a student union. (College Catalog 1971-1972, page 38.)
