1VV Famous Visitors collection is an artificial collection (compiled by Archivists from multiple sources based on subject) dating from 1883-1978. Includes records of visits to Wellesley College by these groups and individuals: Zuni Native Americans, sociologist and civil rights activist Dwight O. W. Holmes, Hawaiian Princess Victoria Kaʻiulani and Queen Kapi'olani Napelakapuokaka'e, author and historian Edward Everett Hale, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, French actor M. Coquelin, British temperance leader and women's rights activist Lady Henry Somerset, newspaperman James Burton Pond, Princeton political economy professor (and future 28th President of the United States) Woodrow Wilson, British politician Viscountess Ethel Snowden, the Chinese Education Mission, the International Congress of the Chambers of Commerce, Russian revolutionary and a founder of the Socialist Revolutionary Party Catherine Breshkovsky,the British Educational Mission, Prince Nobuhito and Princess Kikuko Takamatsu of Japan, actress Maude Adams, French diplomat and Ambassador to the United States René Doynel de Saint-Quentin, US Postmaster James Farley with daughter Betty, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Indian Diplomat and first woman president of the United Nations General Assembly, her brother and first Prime Minister of independent India Jawaharlal Nehru, and Nehru's daughter and future Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, First Lady of Pakistan Begum Ra'ana Liaqat Ali Khan, journalist and editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper Ralph McGill, former United States Secretary of State Dean Gooderham Acheson and his wife, artist Alice Stanley Acheson, feminist author and activist Wilma Scott Heide, sister Salamasiana Malietoa and wife Lili Malietoa of the Western Samoan head of state, Prime Minister of Israel Golda Meir, a Chinese Delegation and first lady of the Republic of China Mayling Soong.
